The remaining committee members have decided to close down the group due to the lack of new committee members coming forward. We have decided to distribute our funds to a mixture of local and national charities and good causes. We were always limited in the type of events we could promote due to the lack of a village hall and/or village pub. The Methodist Chapel was fine for many events, but cannot accommodate alcohol. The events we did promote were usually well attended and appreciated by the audience.

The funds have been distributed to; Malvern Wells School, Upper Welland Methodist Chapel and the Midlands Air Ambulance.

The decision to close the group is deeply regretted, but the committee could not continue with three members. The group could restart in the future if enough interest is shown.

The Hawthorns Public House

The campaign to keep the Hawthorns Inn goes on. Local campaign group, FRoTH, has tried to keep the closure in the public eye. Upper Welland Community Group supports FRoTH. Link to FRoTH webpage.

Broadband Petition:

In April 2008 our chairman, Graham George, wrote to the chairman of BT, Sir Michael Rake to complain about the poor broadband service and low bandwidth in the village. The letter was copied to the Office of Telecommunications (Ofcom), the Office of the Telecommunications Ombudsman (Telo) and Sir Michael Spicer MP (for South Worcestershire).

We received replies which are available here: BT, Ofcom, Telo and Sir Michael Spicer MP.
